We’re seeing a dramatic spike in ATM skimming attacks. Financial institutions across California are reporting the criminals installing deep insert skimming/shimming devices inside the card reader along with an external PIN camera to capture card & PIN information, later returning to make fraudulent withdrawals with duplicated cards.
Please be advised, these cards could have been made from information gathered from any financial institution’s machines. Criminals are now using ATMs as a vehicle to complete the fraudulent withdrawals.
Ahead of this holiday weekend and with an unusual high volume of activities being reported, it is important to look at any ATMs you plan on using before making a transaction. If anything looks suspicious, report it and move to another ATM.
